Shannon over at Rocks in my Dryer hosts a great ‘Works for me Wednesday’ post which other bloggers can link to and share their own tips.
This week my ‘tip’ is how to save on your grocery/shopping bill!I have found that by cutting out meat at least one day a week and cooking vegetarian, the shopping bill can be greatly reduced! As simple as that! I can sometimes save as much as £10! There are loads of really nice vegetarian recipes out there! I will post some in the near future, so keep checking out my (our) blog!

You know, that’s really a great point – we eat meatless a couple nights a week and it helps us out tremendously. Never thought to share that – so great job! And thanks for stopping by my blog!

So true!
I never eat red meat, and only prepare chicken a couple nights a week.

My family doesn’t feel like it’s a “real” meal unless there is a definite sign of meat in on the table some where.
You’ll have to share your favorite vegetarian menu.
Thanks for the good reminder to cut costs!

Will do! One of them is actually posted over on my friend’s blog! Check it out on

It’s a lentil stew, which is really nice served with crusty bread.

Very true! I am working on saving money on groceries. One thing I do is cut the meat in half for Tacos and add Black beans after browning the meat. Sometimes I add corn too. Very yummy and you won’t miss less taco meat.

If you want to save even more, flip it over – instead of skipping meat one night a week, make non-meat meals the norm and meat-based menus the treat. You can do a lot with dolled up pizzas, egg stratas, rice&bean dishes etc. We are a low-meat family. I post a lot of recipes on my blog, if you are interested.
best,

We used to eat meat with every meal but with an introduction to pasta & sauce we seem to be eating less. While I do like to make homemade sauces it’s great to be able to open a jar & throw it on a drop of pasta for those busy/lazy days. My favourites are any from the Seeds of Change Organic range or Newman’s Own.

Suzanne- will check those out. Always on the look-out for new ideas!
Dot- Yeah I like those Seeds of Change ones too. Haven’t tried the Newman’s own yet.

If Hubby would last a whole day without meat, I think we’d be a veggie family!
Great idea on saving money….
I *love* the piano music btw. If only my three girls would show an interest in learning. I might just buy a good piano, stick it in the lounge and see what happens!
