Ok really the header above doesn’t apply, because as you’ll see it is BACKWARDS DAY over at Shannon’s. Simply put…..readers ask for tips instead of (in my case!) attempt to give them!
Just a note though…men , head on over here today. It’s more interesting. Really.
OK. So onto my quest for some tips!
1. I am attempting to potty train my almost 3 year old. He is my 3rd child and it is not going as smoothly as my other two, who I managed to get out of nappies (diapers) in a week or so! Problem is I’m heavily pregnant so I can’t run after him and he doesn’t ask to go…. I need tips and lots of them on methods you used!
2. I’m almost 34 weeks pregnant and I’m desperate not to go overdue and end up being induced! ( I was induced with the last 2 of my 3 pregnancies) Does anyone have any tips on how not to go over your due date?! (Yes, I realise there may not be an easy answer to this!)
N
P.S Have just noticed some of you others are on a potty-training success quest too!

Firework display! That’s what set me off with my first, but I was 2 weeks over already. Had a consultant who didn’t believe women should be induced unless there was a clear danger to mother or baby. Apparently one of my husbands cousins locked herself in the toilet when she was 2 weeks over, at the hospital and wouldn’t come out because of him.

I may just be lucky but for my boy who is quite
stubbornstrong willed and hates to be dirtly, letting him run around naked worked very well :) He would use his undies as diaper if he had them on, so we took them away! About the first time something ran down his leg that was enough for him!!! (Sidenote: he also night trained at the same time b/c of this!) Good luck w/ both potty training and the rest of your pregnancy!October 3, 2007 at 12:04 pm
Your dh sperm will soften your cervix. Also take Evening Primrose Capsules, poke a hole in them and put on your cervix, lay down until it’s disolved. You can do this every night starting around 36 weeks. Evening primrose capsules softens your cervix. Also if you do have to be induced ask for low dose pitocin and then ask to have it turned off, after a pattern has developed, to see if you will continue to labor on your own.

wait to potty train until after the baby is here! Do a lot of squats, it should make your labor easier too.

1. We are also still working on this, what works for my 3 yr old is letting him run around naked, if he has any diaper, underwear, etc on he will go in it, but if he’s naked he will use the toilet. Eventually hopefully I can get him to wear underwear.
2. My advice may not be as welcome but here it is- due dates are not expiration dates. Once you hit 40 wks it doesn’t mean suddenly the baby must be born. In fact the average unintervened pregnancy is around 41 weeks, and you are not technically overdue until 42 wks. Some people gestate longer and always go overdue and that’s just how their body and babies need things to be done. I don’t recommend induction unless it’s for a true medical reason where you or baby are in danger if the baby’s not born, because the risks to your and baby are increased with inductions, even ‘natural’ inductions.

I can’t quite decide if your other two are girls or boys. If they are girls, you should know girls train easier than boys. It is not unusual at all for a boy to go to 3 1/2 years of age! All 3 of mine took that long, but let me tell you…when they got it they were ‘done.’ No accidents! My daughter, who was able to use the potty at 2 1/2, still had accidents for about another year. So see, in the long run…3 1/2 years is about right.
Just remember the old saying: “no child ever boarded the kindergarten bus in diapers”!

1. Many children who were potty trained regressed after another baby was born.
Potty training and a new baby are major changes in such a little life.
Give him some time to adjust, then make clear he’s mom’s great boy and start training.
2. Give nature the chance to take the time for the pregnancy. The due date is just a statistical average.
You can ask your obstetrician to see if the cervix is dilated already. This often happens with a so-maniest child. He can irritate the cervix which might start the hormonal change that starts the contractions.
When the cervix is soft, he can strip loose a bit the cervix from the watersac.
But all these things won’t work if the body isn’t ready and just add to the risk of infection.
It’s best to be as relaxed as possible, enjoy the life within, take a walk each day and let nature do the job.
Good luck!

Hello
I am leaving the potty training until after this baby is born….apart from the fact that Daniel is not interested, I don’t think I could cope with him regressing on the arrival of new baby. Our pre-school takes them in nappies, although hopefully we will be sorted by January. You ladies whose children run around starkers must have easy to clean floors!
As for the not going over due……I don’t want to either…..but nothing much is happening round here yet :)

Susanna – It’s just the uncomfortableness at the end I can’t bear! I’ve heard clary sage oil in the bath….a few drips works for some women!
Yes….and the ’starkers thing’wouldn’t really work in our house either, apart from if i kept him downstairs all day…

I know nothing about #1, but for #2, try red raspberry leaf tea.
There’s something in it that tones the uterus. I started drinking a few cups a day in my last trimester, and every time I could feel my uterus tightening. I had lots of good BH contractions. Then, when labor day(s) came, I was only in labor for 3 hours 45 minutes with #1 at 39 weeks and ONE HOUR AND NINE MINUTES!!! with #2 (induced at 36 weeks due to complications unrelated to the tea). I credit the tea for my fast labors. Seriously.
You can get it (as well as instructions on how to use it) at a health food store. Make sure you run it by your OB, first.
Good luck!
